The Blinn College esports program picked up a pair of victories Thursday as the Super Smash Bros. Ultimate team swept Dallas Baptist University and the Valorant team defeated Grayson College in National Association of Collegiate Esports (NACE) and NJCAA Esports (NJCAAe) competition, respectively.
The Overwatch team also faced a nationally ranked opponent, falling 3-0 to No. 6 Fisher College Navy in Collegiate Overwatch Swiss Stage play.
Super Smash Bros. Ultimate
The Buccaneers dominated Dallas Baptist University, winning both crew battles to secure a 2-0 victory and improve to 1-1 in NACE competition.
Super Smash Bros. Ultimate is a platform fighting game in which players select characters with unique abilities and battle opponents by building damage percentages and knocking them off the stage. In crew battles, players compete in a team format in which each player attempts to eliminate the opposing team's remaining stocks before being eliminated themselves.

Blinn's performance featured outstanding individual showings from Braeyelyn Mitchell and James Rinehart, who combined to take 23 opposing stocks across the two crew battles.
Mitchell opened the first crew battle on Bayonetta against Dallas Baptist's Diddy Kong on Pokémon Stadium 2. He eliminated Diddy while losing just one stock before taking all three of Cloud's stocks without losing either of his remaining stocks.
Mitchell continued his dominant run against Ness, eliminating him without dropping a stock. He then faced Dallas Baptist's final player, Roy, whom Blinn had identified as the opponent's ace during its scouting earlier in the week. Mitchell took all three of Roy's stocks to complete a crew battle ace, eliminating all four opponents and taking 12 stocks while losing just two of his own.
Rinehart followed with an impressive performance in the second crew battle. Playing Bowser Jr., he eliminated Diddy Kong, Ness, and Cloud before facing Roy. Rinehart took two of Roy's stocks before being eliminated, finishing his run with 11 stocks taken across four opponents.
William Rychetsky entered with Roy down to his final stock and quickly finished the job on Kazuya with a command grab off the stage to secure the second crew battle and complete the sweep.
Assistant esports coach and Super Smash Bros. Ultimate manager Patrick Daley credited the team's preparation for the victory, noting that Blinn had scouted Dallas Baptist's lineup and specifically prepared for its strongest players.
Braeyelyn Mitchell, Christiano Persad, Alexander Pieratt, William Rychetsky, and James Rinehart represented Blinn in the matchup.
The Bucs continue play with a NACE bout against an opponent to be decided at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 29.
Overwatch
Blinn, ranked No. 11 nationally by the Overwatch Collegiate Rankings and Ratings Association (OWCRA), faced No. 6 Fisher College Navy in a matchup between undefeated teams during the fifth round of the Collegiate Overwatch Swiss Stage.
Overwatch is a team-based, first-person shooter in which players select heroes with unique abilities and work together to complete objectives across multiple map modes. Each team can strategically choose its maps based on team strengths and opponent weaknesses.
The Bucs fell 3-0 but remained competitive throughout the series against one of the nation's top programs. The result left Blinn with a 4-1 record in Swiss Stage play.
The series opened on Busan in Control, where teams fight to capture and hold a single point. Fisher won 2-0, capitalizing on key moments despite Blinn matching the nationally ranked opponent for extended stretches.
On Aatlis in Flashpoint, teams fight to control capture zones that rotate to new locations after each point is secured. The Bucs again traded blows with Fisher but struggled to convert key opportunities. Fisher secured a 3-1 victory to take a commanding series lead.
Blinn then faced elimination on Esperança in Push, a mode in which teams battle to control a robot and push it toward the opponent's side. The Bucs continued battling but could not overcome several costly mistakes in crucial fights, falling 1-0 as Fisher completed the sweep.
Blinn esports head coach and Overwatch manager Murto said the result was frustrating because Blinn demonstrated its ability to compete with a top-six opponent but struggled to execute in decisive moments. He emphasized the need to eliminate preventable mistakes, improve communication, and maintain discipline in high-pressure situations.
Donnivan Straight, Jose Soliz, Antony Luna, Dylan Wiley, Salvador Castaneda, Charles Tomlinson, and Carter Lenahan competed for Blinn.
The Bucs continue their Overwatch season when they battle an opponent to be decided at 7:30 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 26.
Valorant
Blinn continued its strong run in NJCAA Esports regular-season play with a convincing 2-0 victory over Grayson College, improving to 3-1 in league competition.
The Bucs carried momentum from a victory over Randolph-Macon College the previous evening, controlling the pace of both maps behind strong gunplay, coordinated site executions, and effective teamwork.
Valorant is a tactical, team-based first-person shooter in which teams of five select agents with unique abilities. Attackers attempt to plant a spike at a designated site, while defenders work to prevent the plant or defuse the spike. Teams generally need 13 round victories to win a map, with overtime required if the score reaches 12-12.
Blinn opened the series on Lotus and quickly took control through aggressive map pressure and confident execution. Tyler Hartman and Samuel Long helped create space during site attacks, while Brian Yang organized engagements and helped the team capitalize on openings. Ahnaf Khan and Michael Pint provided valuable support throughout the map.
The Bucs also defended effectively, contesting space early, forcing Grayson to expend utility, and rotating quickly to prevent opposing attacks from developing. Blinn closed Lotus with a dominant 13-2 victory.
Haven proved more competitive, but the Bucs maintained control and adjusted when Grayson found occasional success. Blinn spread pressure across all three sites, while Pint and Khan helped create opportunities through well-timed utility and aggressive positioning. Long and Hartman continued winning key opening engagements, and Yang punished opponents who challenged his positioning.
Blinn responded quickly whenever Grayson threatened to build momentum, securing a 13-6 victory on Haven to complete the sweep.
Daley, who also manages Blinn Valorant, praised the team's continued improvement, highlighting its individual gunplay, clean site executions, and ability to maintain control throughout the series. Pint, Khan, Hartman, Long, and Yang represented the Bucs in the victory.
Blinn continues its NACE Valorant slate against an opponent to be determined at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 28.
