The Blinn College volleyball team earned its 17th sweep of the season Monday, defeating Collin County Community College 3-0 in Frisco, Texas.
The Buccaneers won 25-18, 25-18, and 25-23, overcoming a shorthanded lineup to secure the road victory.
Blinn improved to 24-6 overall with two regular-season matches remaining.
"It's good to win on the road," Blinn head coach Gregg Whitis said. "Good teams find ways to win when they don't play their best. We have to get back in the gym and clean some things up before our last two matches of region play."
Freshman hitter Akira Smallwood led Blinn with 12 kills, followed by sophomore hitter Aliyah Harris with 11 and freshman hitter Nevaeh English with 10. Smallwood also recorded three service aces and seven digs, while Harris added one solo block and two block assists.
English hit .412 on 17 attacks and added four digs. Sophomore middle blocker Alana Asante contributed three kills, two solo blocks, and five block assists, while freshman libero/defensive specialist Karolynn Youngblood led the Bucs with 13 digs. Freshman libero/DS Kaylen Ottmers added five digs and an ace. Freshman setter Skylar Herring kept the Bucs' attack moving with 26 set assists.
Whitis credited Ottmers and Youngblood for stepping up while the Bucs dealt with injuries on the road.
Blinn finished with 41 kills, 40 assists, five service aces, 10 blocks, and 39 digs as a team.
Up next, the Bucs visit region foe Lee College at 7 p.m. Friday in Baytown, Texas.
Blinn has won 12 consecutive matches against Lee dating back to Sept. 28, 2021.
Blinn has competed in intercollegiate athletics since 1903 and captured 53 national championships since 1987.
