The Blinn College women's soccer team closed out its regular season in dominant fashion Friday, defeating Texas Southmost College 4-0 in a Region 14 matchup at Rankin Field in Brenham, Texas.
The Buccaneers completed a two-game regular-season sweep of the Scorpions to finish 9-4-1 overall and 8-3-1 in Region 14 play. Blinn also went a perfect 6-0 at home this season and posted a 6-0 mark against the Region 14 South division. The Bucs did not concede a goal in three South home matches.
Blinn is also riding an impressive unbeaten streak, going 4-0-1 since Sept. 25. The Bucs also picked up their seventh shutout of the year.
"I am happy for my players that we could end our South division slate undefeated and stay undefeated at home," Blinn head coach Alexandria Jackson said. "The message is clear that the season isn't over, so I'm even more proud with how they competed in this game after winning the South division last Friday. This is a special team that has a great chance of having a longer season."
Blinn wasted little time taking control, as sophomore midfielder Lilly Arellano scored in the third minute off an assist from freshman forward Vianney Adame. Adame added a goal of her own in the 18th minute to give the Bucs a 2-0 advantage.
Freshman forward Amanda Millar extended the lead to 3-0 in the 22nd minute with assists from sophomore midfielders Chloe Mejia and Kaelynn Pablo. Arellano capped the scoring in the 53rd minute with her second goal of the match, assisted by sophomore midfielder Taylor Bull.
Blinn finished with an 18-3 advantage in shots and a commanding 17-1 edge in corner kicks.
Sophomore goalkeeper Reese Cauthen improved to 8-3-1 on the season after recording three saves in the shutout.
With the regular season complete, the Bucs will look to carry their momentum into postseason play as they pursue a deep playoff run. Blinn will host Paris Junior College in the opening round of the Region 14 Tournament at 5 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 27, at Rankin Field.
Blinn has competed in intercollegiate athletics since 1903 and captured 53 national championships since 1987.
