The Blinn College esports team earned victories in Valorant and Overwatch on Thursday as the Bucs continued their strong start to the fall season.
The Buccaneers' Valorant team opened its NJCAA Esports (NJCAAe) regular season with a 2-0 sweep of Collin College, while the eighth-ranked Overwatch team swept Washington State University 3-0 to improve to 3-0 in Collegiate Overwatch (COW) Swiss Stage play.

Blinn dominated Collin College in its season opener, winning Ascent and Abyss by identical 13-2 scores in a best-of-three match.
Valorant is a tactical, team-based first-person shooter in which teams of five players select agents with unique abilities. Teams alternate between attacking and defending, with attackers attempting to plant a spike at a designated site and defenders trying to prevent the plant or defuse the spike. The first team to win 13 rounds claims the map, with overtime required if the score reaches 12-12.

Competing for the Bucs were Braeden Greiffenstein, Ahnaf Khan, Tyler Hartman, Samuel Long, and Brian Yang.
Assistant coach and Valorant manager Patrick Daley said the matchup provided an opportunity to experiment with unconventional agent compositions and a faster play style while keeping the team's established strategies under wraps for future opponents.
On Ascent, Long played Reyna and used his individual gun skill to create pressure across the map. Strong utility usage from Yang and Greiffenstein helped open up attacking opportunities, while Khan recognized gaps in Collin's defense and helped the Bucs adjust their approach.
Blinn continued experimenting on Abyss, giving Hartman an opportunity to play Neon ahead of expected changes to the agent. Yang also delivered a strong performance with the Operator, while Khan contributed with effective shot-calling.

Overwatch
The eighth-ranked Bucs continued their strong start to the Collegiate Overwatch season with a 3-0 sweep of Washington State University in a best-of-five Swiss Stage round-three match. Blinn improved to 3-0 in Swiss Stage play.
Overwatch is a team-based first-person shooter in which players select heroes with unique abilities and work together to complete objectives across different map modes. Each mode has a distinct win condition, requiring teams to coordinate their attacks, defenses, and objective control.
Competing for the Bucs were Jose Soliz, Antony Luna, Dylan Wiley, Salvador Castaneda, Charles Tomlinson, and Carter Lenahan.
Head coach and Overwatch manager Kyle Murto said the victory showcased the team's continued growth and provided valuable competitive experience for its substitutes.
Blinn opened the series on Samoa, winning 2-0 in Control. In this mode, teams compete to capture and hold a designated objective, with the first team to reach 100% control winning the round. Lenahan started at tank, and Tomlinson entered the lineup for Castaneda following the opening map to give another substitute meaningful playing time.
The Bucs carried that momentum into Suravasa, earning a convincing 3-0 victory in Flashpoint. Teams in this mode compete to capture a series of objectives that shift locations across the map, with the first team to capture three zones winning. Strong coordination, communication, and objective control prevented Washington State from building any momentum.
Blinn closed out the sweep on Esperança, overcoming a slow start to secure a 2-1 victory in Push. Teams in Push battle for control of a robot and attempt to move it farther into the opposing team's territory than their opponents. Despite surrendering a couple of early fights, the Bucs recovered to complete the sweep.
Murto praised the entire roster's performance, noting that the team looked increasingly cohesive from start to finish. He also emphasized the importance of developing roster depth as the Bucs prepare for the remainder of the season.
The victory gives Blinn momentum heading into the Queen City Clash this weekend at the University of Cincinnati. The in-person tournament will feature 22 universities from across the nation, with Blinn entering as the No. 3 seed.
Blinn will compete in an NJCAAe matchup against Grayson College at 6 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 14, before resuming COW Swiss Stage play at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 15. Blinn's opponent will be announced one to two days before the match, per league rules.
