Two first-half goals paved the way to victory for the Blinn College women's soccer team on Friday.
The Buccaneers scored in the sixth and 42nd minutes of play and their defense did the rest for a 2-0 Region 14 shutout win over Northeast Texas Community College at Rankin Field in Brenham, Texas.
Blinn improved to 3-2 overall and 2-1 in region play and has won back-to-back region matchups in shutout fashion.
"This was a good team win," Bucs head coach Alexandria Jackson said. "We looked like ourselves today. Our backline is developing the chemistry we need to be successful, and we are learning that we can find the back of the net with ease. I'm happy with the full team performance."
Blinn wasted little time getting on the board.
After the Bucs put the ball in play from the corner, sophomore midfielder Saya Shiratsuki snuck into the Northeast Texas box just as sophomore midfielder Mikaela Juliano gathered and crossed a long pass toward her teammate. Shiratsuki lunged forward for a toe tap that sent the ball into the back-right corner for a 1-0 lead.

Blinn added to its lead late in the opening half when a Bucs shot attempt banged off the right post of the Northeast Texas goal. Freshman forward Chelsea Mentado collected the loose ball and fired it into the net for a 2-0 cushion.
Blinn's defense did the rest as the Bucs held the Eagles without a shot. Blinn tallied 20 shots and four corner kicks.
Sophomore goalkeeper Reece Cauthen was in goal for the Bucs and improved to 3-2 on the year.
Blinn's season resumes immediately with a region home match against Paris Junior College at 11 a.m. on Saturday.
Blinn has competed in intercollegiate athletics since 1903 and captured 53 national championships since 1987.
