The Blinn College women's golf team claimed its first victory of the season Tuesday at the two-day Jacksonville College Invitational in Jacksonville, Texas.
The Buccaneers won the five-team tournament for the second consecutive year, finishing 54-over par with rounds of 313 and 309. The field featured 33 golfers.
Blinn placed four golfers in the top five, led by freshman Mattie Purgahn, who earned medalist honors after shooting rounds of 74 and 78 to finish 10-over par.
Freshman Ella Donovan finished second at 12-over par, while sophomore Zoe Nobile placed third at 13-over. Sophomore Arianna Rodriguez rounded out Blinn's top-five finishers, placing fifth at 19-over.
"It was a pleasure working with the ladies this week," first-year Blinn assistant coach Mike Fluty said. "There is so much talent on the squad; they are going to do great things."
Blinn returns to action at the two-day Texas A&M-Victoria Fall Classic beginning Monday, Oct. 19, in Victoria, Texas.
Blinn has competed in intercollegiate athletics since 1903 and captured 53 national championships since 1987.
