About G&W Electric

For nearly 30 years, people in the Bryan-College Station area have trusted G&W Electric with their residential and small commercial electrical needs. A lot has changed in that time, but company founder James West is still operating on the same principle as when he started in 1981: Good service at a fair price.

West was born and raised in Bryan-College Station and has been working as an electrician locally since the 1970s. Over the years, G&W Electric has become a family business with West’s son, Kyle (Aggie Class ‘08), becoming a partner.

“It was always Kyle’s goal to be part of the business, so after graduating, he started working on expanding the business,” West said. “My wife, Sharon runs the office for us and even though my daughter, Keri doesn’t work here full time, she helps us out with the billing and managing our bank accounts.”

G&W handles a variety of residential and small commercial jobs, but is also beginning to offer residential service calls to help customers with their everyday needs.

“We’ve always provided a limited service period for our jobs, but a full-time service truck is something we’ve always wanted to offer the Brazos Valley. We have often heard people saying it’s hard to find someone to do small electrical jobs, West said. But we can do such jobs as install new lighting or ceiling fans, receptacles and replace old breaker boxes. We also install generators, which has become a popular thing in our area. We like to say that no job is too small.”

Customers will get an initial estimate over the phone to give them an idea of the price range for the job. All work is handled by G&W Electric’s crew of professional electricians. Some of the workers have been with West since the beginning, and all are trained and certified. West places an emphasis on customer service, and that means all of his crew members are trained to treat their customers with courtesy and maintain a professional appearance at all times.

West believes attention to the small details is what keeps customers with G&W. He prides himself on customer relationships, and has long-term customers that show the benefit of that philosophy.

“Some of my customers have been with us for 30 years. That’s hard to believe,” West said. “Supply businesses and companies like that have long-term customers, but in our business, it’s hard to keep a customer for 30 years. When I see a customer out in town, I want them to think, ‘There’s my electrician,’ just like they would with their doctor or other professional they trust. We want people to remember us because we did a good job and gave them a fair price.” With all of the growth in the area, West knows that G&W Electric has plenty of new competition. With so many electricians to chose from, West said it is important to find someone that is fair and going to be around down the road when it comes time for service or repairs.

“We’re not one of those here today, gone tomorrow operations,” West said. “We’ve been here 30 years and our plan is to still be here serving the Brazos Valley for many more years. ” For more information on G&W Electric ’s services or to get an over-the-phone estimate, call 979-778-0302.
