LANSING, Mich. (AP) — A Republican legislative leader and other lawmakers on Wednesday unveiled bipartisan measures they said are designed to lower prescription drug prices, bring parity in insurance coverage of chemotherapy and improve the quality of health care.

Roshni Kamta remembers that spring day two years ago when she left for work on her usual crowded New York City subway line, carrying precious cargo. Inside the light white bag, which she stored inside the refrigerator at work, were her egg freezing supplies — syringes and the hormone medications she would inject into her body at work to maintain her medicating schedule.

Democrats in the Connecticut General Assembly hope to pass health care legislation this year they contend will lower health insurance prices and expand coverage options for individuals and small businesses, arguing Tuesday that it's needed now more than ever given the continuing coronavirus pandemic.

NEW DELHI (AP) — India’s government has proposed to increase spending on health care in a $477 billion budget for 2021-22 that promises extra help for weathering the coronavirus pandemic.

With a majority too small to eliminate the filibuster, Democrats will not have enough votes in the Senate to pass many of their plans without Republicans and will also have only a razor-thin majority in the House. This combination could doom many Democratic health care proposals, like offering Americans a government-sponsored public insurance option, and complicate efforts to pass further pandemic relief.
