James B. “Dick” Hervey, 93, of College Station, passed away Wednesday February 19, 2014 in Houston.

Dick was born June 2, 1920, in Greenville, Texas, to Oney and Elizabeth Hervey. He was a graduate of the Fightin’ Texas Aggie Class of ’42 where he acted as President of his senior class. Immediately upon graduation, he was called to service in WWII as a proud member of the US Air Force, where he gained the rank of Lieutenant Colonel. After serving¸ he moved to Dallas where he married his beloved wife Nedra. He returned to College Station in 1947 to take the position of Executive Secretary of the Association of Former Students, which he held through 1964. Upon leaving the Association, he became President of Community Savings & Loan where he worked until his retirement in 1982. Through his love for Texas A&M and the community he served as a member and then president of the A&M Consolidated ISD school board. He also served as Mayor of College Station from 1971-1974. In gratitude for his contributions to A&M and the community he was awarded the Association’s highest honor in 1988, The Distinguished Alumnus Award. His forward thinking and leadership helped create the bonds Former Students have today leaving a legacy for generations.

Dick will always be remembered for his love of life, love of family, and love of friends.

He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Nedra Scott Hervey; son and daughter-in-law, Scott and Penny Hervey; brothers, Jarrett and Johnny Hervey; sisters, Oney Beth Boren and Mary LyBrand Estes; and his parents.

Survivors include his sons and daughters-in-law, Dick and Cheri Hervey, Bob and Kim Hervey; and grandchildren, Preston Hervey, Magan and Robert Henson, Melissa Hervey, Emily Hervey, Jarrett and Catherine Hervey, Scottie Hervey, and Andrew Hervey.

The family will receive guests during visitation from 2p.m. until 4p.m. Sunday, February 23, 2014 at Callaway-Jones Funeral Home in Bryan. Funeral services are set for 11:00 a.m. Monday, February 24, at A&M United Methodist Church in College Station, with interment to follow at College Station Cemetery with full military honors. Service arrangements are in the care of Callaway-Jones Funeral Home and Crematory.
