AUSTIN, Texas (AP) -- A University of Texas library and museum has acquired 50 letters written by Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis to a colleague in the book publishing business.

The acquisition from Ray Roberts was announced Friday by UT's Harry Ransom Center.

The letters, dated from 1978 to 1992, were written when Roberts worked with the former first lady at Doubleday & Co. in New York, and when he was with Little, Brown and Company in Boston.

In a letter dated Oct. 30, 1982, she thanks Roberts, saying "You are so adorably generous and I am so grateful. The glories of my library are all presents from you."

President John F. Kennedy was fatally shot on Nov. 22, 1963, as his wife rode with him in a Dallas motorcade. Kennedy Onassis died in 1994.
