HOUSTON -- Police have arrested a homeless man in one of three slayings in which the women were found strangled in or around downtown Houston since mid-June.
Investigators on Friday announced the arrest of 46-year-old Lucky Ward over the killing of 52-year-old Reita Long. The body of Long, who also was homeless, was found Sept. 30 on the outside steps of a Roman Catholic cathedral. Police say Ward is facing a capital murder charge.
Police had been investigating whether all three killings were connected. But earlier this week, investigators said they had no evidence to suggest the killings were related or done by the same person.
Police say the investigation into the deaths of the two other women continues.
