AUSTIN, Texas -- A Travis County grand jury has declined to indict an Austin police officer in the fatal shooting of an armed teen outside an apartment complex in May.

Jurors issued the no-bill Wednesday.

Police have said the May 11 incident began with Officer Leonardo Quintana investigating whether a Mercedes-Benz station wagon occupied by Nathaniel Sanders II and two other men was linked to a series of incidents involving gunfire.

Travis County District Attorney Rosemary Lehmberg says Quintana grabbed Sanders' hand when the 18-year-old awoke up in the car. She says that after the officer saw a gun in Sanders' waistband, Quintana reached for the gun, "briefly pulling back and forth for control of the gun. Sanders leaned back and away to maintain control of the gun."
