SAN ANGELO -- About 100 members of the Fundamentalist Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints gathered Friday to mark the first anniversary of a raid that resulted in one of the largest child-custody cases in U.S. history.
The public gathering took place at Fort Concho, a historic landmark site that served as housing shortly after the April 3, 2008, raid began.
The polygamist sect members thanked volunteers who helped them and paid a visit to the buildings where they once slept crammed together on cots before a court order put all 439 sect children in foster care.
