Union Pacific Railroad's Steam Locomotive No. 844 is scheduled to stop in Hearne on its way from Austin to Palestine early Monday afternoon.
The 450-ton train is three weeks into its month-long 10-state Southern Central States Heritage Express Tour. It began in Wyoming and has traveled south through Colorado, Kansas, Oklahoma, New Mexico and Texas.
The locomotive was built in 1944 and was the last steam engine built for Union Pacific, according to railroad officials. The engine was retired in 1989 and currently runs as Union Pacific's Ambassador of Good Will.
The locomotive will be in downtown Hearne for servicing from 1 to 1:30 p.m. The exact location of its stop will depend on rail traffic Monday afternoon, Union Pacific officials said. For more information, call the Hearne Chamber of Commerce at 279-2351.
