One woman died and three people were hospitalized after a wreck on U.S. 290 in Brenham on Sunday afternoon.
The names of those involved in the crash were not released pending notification to their families, said Jay Petrash, Brenham's interim police chief.
A Toyota pickup was traveling west on U.S. 290 when it crossed a grassy median and hit a Ford pickup that was pulling a 30-foot travel trailer. The driver of the Toyota died in the crash, which happened around 12:30 p.m., Petrash said.
"Part of the trailer came loose from its frame and flipped upside down in the middle of the roadway," Petrash said. "The pickup hit the guardrail, careened and rolled down the embankment at 290 and [Texas] 36 South."
The Toyota had two passengers, a man and woman, both of whom were flown to Memorial Hermann Hospital in Houston. The driver of the Ford, a man, was also taken to the hospital.
A fourth man, a motorcyclist driving behind the Ford, received minor injuries when he lost control of his bike in an attempt to avoid the wreck, Petrash said. The motorcyclist was not taken to the hospital.
