A College Station woman was arrested just after midnight Monday after authorities say she attacked and strangled a family member.

According to College Station police, authorities were called to a home in the 2400 block of Blanco Drive after the report of a disturbance. Once police arrived, they spoke with Brittney Xan Roston, 27, who appeared to be intoxicated. Police said she had cuts all over her body, as well as a gash on her forehead. A second woman came out, and Roston screamed expletives at her, authorities said.

The second woman was treated in an ambulance that had arrived, and her neck was bruised. A police report notes she had a lump on her forehead, and her nose and mouth were bloody. The woman said Roston had come into her apartment with at least two other people and attacked her in the upstairs bedroom, a report notes. Authorities say Roston allegedly beat the woman with her fists and bashed her over the head with a lamp before strangling her.

A search led to the discovery of blood throughout the apartment, including on the floor, furniture and bedding. Roston is charged with assault on a family member by strangulation, a third-degree felony punishable by up to 10 years in prison and $10,000 in fines; and interfering with an emergency call, a Class A misdemeanor punishable by up to a year in jail.

She is being held in the Brazos County Jail on $4,000 in fines.
