Firefighters continued late Friday to investigate the cause of a blaze that damaged a Brazos County church.

The fire at Fairview Baptist Church, 950 Hoston Road, was contained to the kitchen, Precinct 4 Volunteer Fire Chief Joe Ondrasek said.

No one was inside when the fire started, and most of the building was saved, Ondrasek said.

About 30 firefighters from the Precincts 1, 2, 4 and Bryan fire departments responded to the 7:40 p.m. blaze. One firefighter was taken to the hospital after injuring his leg when he fell through the floor, Ondrasek said.
