A $902,983 contract is being awarded to Omaha-based Deloittee LLC to do an assessment of the Texas A&M University System's information technology services across all colleges and agencies.
The System Board of Regents approved the move Friday during a meeting at Texas A&M-Kingsville. Officials said Deloitte was picked from a pool of 10 applicants.
"IT is a daily part of our lives in this technology age, so we need to ensure that our IT groups throughout the system are where they need to be," said system Chancellor John Sharp. "That is why we have taken this step to look for recommendations on how to most effectively and efficiently deliver IT services to our constituents, today and in the future."
The assessment will be carried out in two phases. In Phase I, which will start early this month, Deloitte will analyze the governance, security and infrastructure of system members' IT departments over the course of the next four or five months.
The initial work will include a significant information-gathering effort involving every A&M System member. Site visits will be made to some members for this purpose, while for other members' information gathering will be handled via telephone and video conferencing.
Once that is complete, the chancellor will review the results of Deloitte's information gathering and decide whether or not to proceed to Phase II, during which Deloitte would analyze application management, IT operations, IT demand and project management, and IT staffing and support.
