Eagle Staff Report

Many local families will have food for the holidays thanks to the "Share the Gift" campaign, sponsored by seven local churches and ministries.

The seven groups -- First Baptist Church of Bryan, Brazos Fellowship, College Heights Assembly of God, Community Church, Living Hope Baptist Church of Bryan, New Life Baptist Church and the Bridge Ministry -- are raising $26,000 to pay for 40,000 pounds of food.

That food will be sorted into grocery bags and given to 1,500 families through the Bryan and College Station school districts and the Area Agency on Aging.

"This is just an opportunity for the church to stand up and meet a really practical need in our community," said Brian Crump, minister of missions at FBC Bryan.

The campaign still needs money and volunteers. To donate, send checks made out to FBC Bryan to 3100 Cambridge, Bryan, TX, 77802. Write "SHARE THE GIFT" in the memo line.

Volunteers are needed to sort the food Monday through Wednesday from 1 to 8 p.m. at FBC and to deliver the food on Thursday and Friday from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.
