First Baptist Church has postponed the planned closure of its Child Development Center until the end of October.
The delay of nearly two months was prompted by church deacons, who wanted to provide an easier transition for children moving to a new child-care facility, said Benson Kilgore, chairman of the Child Development Center Committee.
The decision was made during a Tuesday night meeting of the Child Development Center and the Weekday Early Education committees, Kilgore said.
First Baptist leaders said last week they planned to close the downtown Bryan center Sept. 2.
The church plans to hold a town hall meeting before congregants vote July 27 on whether the closure should take place.
