A 43-year-old Bryan man posted bail Sunday after being arrested when police said they caught him asleep behind the wheel.

He was charged with driving while intoxicated with open containers of alcohol, which is a Class B misdemeanor, punishable by a fine not to exceed $2,000 and 180 days in jail.

Bryan police said they were driving down East 29th Street around 10 p.m. Saturday when they pulled up next to a white Ford F-150 truck. The truck was stopped at an intersection at Main Street, police said. When they looked over at the truck, police said they could see the driver was not awake, according to court documents.

Inside the vehicle were cans of open beer, according to the police report. The man told police he had between five and 18 cans of beer that night at Northgate, officials said.

He posted $2,000 bail.
