The A&M Consolidated tennis team will send three doubles teams and one singles player to the regional tournament in Waco.

The Tigers qualified for the Region II tournament by finishing in the top two at last weekend's District 13-5A tournament, which also was played in Waco.

Consol's No. 1 boys doubles team of Mick Walter and Philip Lewis will be making their second trip to regionals. Lewis and Walter captured the 13-5A championship by beating teammates Carlos Aguilar and Kevin Duffy in the district final. Last year, Walter and Lewis were second in district.

Duffy and Aguilar beat Bryan's Ryan Hillestad and Josh Atkins in a play-back match for second.

The Consol contingent at regionals will include Agustin Cepeda and Anik Cepeda, who won the mixed doubles championship, and Heather Brien, who won the girls singles crown.

Consol's boys singles player Jorge Aguilar and the girls doubles team of Jessica Raphael and Amanda Trapani just missed regionals, taking third place.

Also, Consol's JV boys doubles captured the top three places at district, the boys singles took the top two spots and the girls doubles were second.

Kevin Wright defeated teammate Wes Kolari, 6-2, 6-3, in the singles championship, while in doubles Brian Sherry and James Knight defeated teammates Lawrence Choi and Pavel Kolomiets, 6-3, 6-3.

Grant Vassberg won the freshman boys singles.
