HUNTSVILLE -- Former Bryan High School quarterback Blake Joseph joined the Sam Houston State team Tuesday after transfering from Houston.

Joseph (6-foot-2, 215 pounds) spent four seasons at Houston, where he completed 120 of 184 passes for 1,581 yards and 10 touchdowns. He started five games.

"He is athletic with a big arm," head SHSU football coach Todd Whitten said. "He has some Division I starts under his belt. I think he is somewhat of a proven commodity."

Joseph, who has one year of eligibility left, will compete with Bryan Randolph for the starting job. Randolph backed up starter Rhett Bomar last year for the Bearkats.
