Eagle Staff Report
NAVASOTA -- In a rematch of an earlier game this year, the Lexington Eagles faced the No. 10 Rice Consolidated Raiders in the Class 2A Division II bi-district round Friday. Lexington played well, too, but the outcome was the same with the Raiders winning 21-11 to advance.
While Lexington (6-5) led almost every offensive category, the Eagles lost the turnover battle. They lost the ball four times while Rice didn't commit a turnover.
Trailing 7-0, Lexington's Mason Vecera put Lexington on the board with a 37-yard field goal.
Rice answered with Mario Hull returning the ensuing kickoff 89 yards for a score. Hull, who scored all three of Rice's touchdowns, caught his second TD pass just before halftime.
The Eagles scored late in the third when Kogan Garrett connected with Xavier Ward for an 11-yard TD. Ward had three catches for 48 yards.
Halfway through the fourth quarter, Lexington added two points when a Rice Consolidated snap went out of the end zone for a safety.
Clint Hutson led the Eagles with 83 yards on 17 carries. Dylan Iselt finished with six receptions for 44 yards, while Tevin Lovings had five for 62.
