Local girls teams open season: The high school girls basketball regular season will open Tuesday with all three local teams starting at home.

The schedule includes the debut of new A&M Consolidated coach Karen Heintz, who took over for Nelda Gilbert with the Lady Tigers. Consol also has three transfers in Taylor, Tiara and Tori Tucker, who played last season for Rudder's team that reached the Class 3A regional tournament. The sisters joined the Consol program after their mother, Lori Shead, was hired as an assistant coach by Heintz.

Consol will play host to Huntsville with the varsity game scheduled for 7:30 p.m.

Bryan and Rudder will play 6:30 p.m. games. The Class 5A Lady Vikings of Bryan will open against Class A Division II school Wells. Rudder's Lady Rangers will take on Brookshire Royal.
