U.S. Olympic Team Trials for archery under way: The U.S. Olympic Team Trials for Archery First Nomination Shoot began Wednesday at Texas A&M with a field of 150 archers competing for six spots on the U.S. Olympic team.

On Wednesday, archers shot a double 72-arrow ranking round at 70 meters, and at the end of the day, the top sixteen men and top sixteen women will form the "shadow team," the group of athletes who will advance to the round robin matches set for Friday and Saturday.


Brazos Christian Middle School 20, Central Texas Christian 16: TEMPLE -- Jesse Honnas, Luke Thomas and Jacob Jordan each scored rushing touchdowns for the Brazos Christian Eagles (4-1) in the victory Thursday.

Brazos Christian's John Mather ran in a PAT.

On defense, Mather and Honnas each had five solo tackles and one interception. Thomas also had two sacks and recovered a fumble.

BC will host St. Joseph on Thursday.


Bastrop freshman 20, Rudder 14: E-Quantay Mason had a 9-yard touchdown run and added an interception for Rudder, while Rudder's Spencer Choka had a 4-yard touchdown reception from Jeramey Johnson.

Johnson added a two-point conversion run. Defensive standouts for Rudder were Elijah Adams and Jordan Tribble.


Bryan JV Blue 50, Killeen Shoemaker 23: Bobby Johnson had touchdown runs of 16 and 21 yards while also scoring on a kickoff return and a 52-yard reception for the Bryan JV Blue (4-1, 1-1).

Bryan's Ryan Way ran for an 8-yard TD while also adding a two-point conversion run. Damian Wilson scored on a 14-yard run and Corey Johnson was 6 for 6 kicking extra points.

Stephon Ellis led the Bryan defense, scoring on a 30-yard fumble recovery. Bryan's Alex Garcia, D.J. McCoy and Keaton Sims each had fumble recoveries.

Bryan will host A&M Consolidated at 7 p.m. Thursday at Merrill Green Stadium.


Bryan JV Silver 9, Pflugerville Hendrickson 6: Alex Harris scored on a 63-yard kickoff return and Julio Martinez recorded a safety to give the Bryan JV Silver (2-3) the victory over Pflugerville Hendrickson.

Bryan's Anthony Salinas completed his only extra-point kick attempt, and Henry Brandesky led the defense with a fumble recovery.

Bryan will host A&M Consolidated at 5 p.m. Thursday at Merrill Green Stadium.


Bryan freshman Blue 24, Killeen Shoemaker 12: Keandre Johnson rushed for touchdowns of 2 and 25 yards to lead Bryan.

Bryan's Quaylan Newton added an 11-yard touchdown run, while Coleman Johnson had a two-point conversion reception.

On defense, Jimmy Thomas had a fumble recovery for Bryan.

Bryan's freshman Silver team lost to Shoemaker 26-0.


Consol JV boys take fourth, Bryan seventh in subvarsity tournament: NAVASOTA -- A&M Consolidated's JV took fourth while Bryan placed seventh in the Bryan Subvarsity Boys Golf Tournament on Thursday at Pecan Lakes Golf Course.

The Woodlands A team won at 306 ahead of Katy Seven Lakes A (323), Klein (329), Consol (335), Huntsville and Klein Oak (337) and Bryan (341). The Woodlands A's Austin Shaw won the individual title with a 2-over 74.

For Consol, Dillon Ufer and Brandon Roquet each shot 83. Ricky Harrison shot 84, and Andy Wu and Dustin Moreau shot 85.

For Bryan, Miles Greenwood and K.C. Boriskie each shot 82. Bryce Beal shot 86, and Joey Barringer shot 91.

Rudder's Colt Myers shot 87, and Logan Tates shot 106.
