Franklin woman dies in truck crash

Eagle Staff Report

A Franklin woman was killed Wednesday after she was ejected from a pickup that rolled into a ditch near New Baden.

Sharon Mayer Martin, 45, was a passenger in a truck driven by Robert Wade Meadows.

Martin was pronounced dead at the scene. Meadows was taken to St. Joseph Regional Health Center in Bryan, where he was treated for back and neck injuries and released.

The Department of Public Safety reported that Meadows’ 1998 Chevrolet pickup was traveling south on F.M. 1940 in Robertson County at about 12:40 p.m.

As the vehicle entered a sharp curve to the left, Meadows overcorrected his steering to the right, and the left tires came off the pavement, according to DPS. The truck came back onto the road and spun counter-clockwise into a ditch, where it started rolling.

Martin was not wearing a seat belt, DPS said.
