Crash victims' names released

Eagle Staff Report

Investigators released the names Tuesday of two men who were killed the night before when their cars collided on Old San Antonio Road.

Daniel Jones, 26, of Franklin was driving a 2003 Nissan eastbound on OSR just inside Robertson County at about 9 p.m. when he crossed the center stripe and entered the westbound lane, Department of Public Safety Trooper Drew Pilkington said.

Jones’ vehicle then struck a 2001 Kia that was traveling in the westbound lane, investigators said. Both Jones and the driver of the Kia, 44-year-old James Hodges of Irving, died at the scene, according to reports.

“It was not a direct head-on, but it was left front to left front,” Pilkington said.

Pilkington said authorities are unsure whether speed was a factor in the accident. Evidence showed that Hodges may have been exceeding the posted speed limit of 65 mph, the trooper said.

There is a slight curve in the road where the accident happened that is not well lit, but a hill at the site also could be a factor, Pilkington said.

Jones was not wearing a seat belt, and it is unclear whether Hodges was wearing a seat belt, investigators said.
