College Basketball Roundup: Memphis tops Gonzaga

No. 4 Memphis 83, No. 8 Gonzaga 72: MEMPHIS, Tenn. - Darius Washington scored 22 points and had 10 assists to help fourth-ranked Memphis hold off No. 8 Gonzaga 83-72 on Tuesday night.

Memphis (10-1) continued its best start since 1985-86, winning its seventh straight game.

No. 13 Boston College 81, Duquesne 69: PITTSBURGH - Craig Smith scored 21 points and held off a late Duquesne comeback bid by scoring on three consecutive Boston College possessions, leading the No. 13 Eagles to victory.

No. 20 Nevada 56, Norfolk State 46: RENO, Nev. - Marcelus Kemp scored eight of his game-high 15 points during a key stretch in the second half and Nick Fazekas added 14 to help No. 20 Nevada overcome a cold shooting night and beat Norfolk State.

Houston 67, Rhode Island 41: HOUSTON - Oliver Lafayette scored 18 points and Houston held Rhode Island to 15 first-half points in a 67-41 victory Tuesday night.

Lafayette also had three steals as the Cougars (6-3) scored 32 points off 26 Rhode Island turnovers and never trailed, leading by as many as 33. Rhode Island guard Dawan Robinson had 12 turnovers.

Rhode Island (6-4) didn't have a scorer in double figures and shot 37 percent for the game, including 27 percent (6-of-22) in the first half. The Rams were led by Will Daniels and Jamaal Wise with eight points each.
