Bryan investigating two Monday robberies
Eagle Staff Report
Bryan police on Tuesday were investigating two robberies that occurred within a 70-minute span a day earlier.
Police said a man entered Manning’s Liquor on William Joel Bryan Parkway about 3:15 p.m. and pointed a gun at the cashier while demanding money. The cashier gave the man an unspecified amount of money and the suspect left, police said.
The clerk told police the man who robbed him is a thin black male who stands about 5 feet 9 inches tall.
A second robbery was reported about 4:25 p.m. at Nick’s Food Mart in the 700 block of Richards Street. Police said a thin black male entered the store while brandishing a handgun and demanded money from the clerk. The man, described as being about 5 feet 5 inches tall, left with an unspecified amount of money, police said.
It is unclear if the two crimes are related, police said.
Officer Walt Melnyk, the police department’s spokesman, said both stores had working video surveillance systems, which provide the best evidence for detectives in such crimes. He said all convenience and liquor store owners must install and maintain a video surveillance system in their stores, according to a city ordinance.
