A&M freshman breaks record in win over LSU: BATON ROUGE, La. -- Texas A&M freshman swimmer Omar Enriquez broke the school's oldest swimming record Saturday in the Aggies' 161.5-138.5 victory over LSU.

Enriquez's time of 9 minutes, 13.42 seconds in the 1,000-yard freestyle broke Rick Walker's school record 9:14.17 set in 1983.

Enriquez also won the 500 freestyle.

A&M senior Nikita Denisyako won the 100 and 200 backstrokes. Junior Balazs Makany won the 100 and 200 freestyles, and junior Bryan Snowden swept the 100 and 200 breaststrokes.

A&M junior Boris Loncaric won the 200 butterfly, and sophomore Cam McLean won the 1-meter springboard event.

Aggie women coast past LSU: BATON ROUGE, La. -- The Texas A&M women's swimming and diving team beat LSU 173-124 on Saturday at the LSU Natatorium.

A&M won 10 of 16 events with senior Julia Wilkinson winning the 100-yard backstroke (54.36 seconds) and the 100 freestyle (49.98) and freshman Maureen McLaine winning the 500 freestyle (4:47.91) and the 1,000 freestyle (9:50.12).

A&M junior Hannah Kinder also won the 200 freestyle. Sophomoe Rita Medrano won the 200 butterfly. Junior Maria Sommer won the 50 freestyle. Senior Alia Atkinson won the 200 breaststroke. Senior Emily Neal won the 400 individual medley, and A&M's Sommer, Sarah Woods, Atkinson and Wilkinson won the 200 freestyle relay.

TENNIS

A&M men's tennis team sweeps doubleheader: The No. 12 Texas A&M men's tennis team opened its season with a pair of 6-1 victories over Texas-Pan American and Nicholls State on Saturday at the Mitchell Tennis Center.

Sophomore Alexis Klegou and freshmen Niall Angus and Alberto Bautista made their A&M debuts at Nos. 2 through 4 singles against Texas-Pan Am with all three winning. Klegou beat Brett Bernstein 6-3, 6-1. Angus, who joined the team in January, beat Beau Bernstein in a third-set super tiebreaker 3-6, 7-5 1-0 (10-7). Bautista beat Nirvick Mohinta 6-3, 6-2.

A&M junior All-American Austin Krajicek clinched the team victory over UTPA with a 6-3, 6-4 victory over Aswin Vijayaragavan at No. 1 singles.

Against Nicholls State, A&M's Marcus Lunt clinched the team victory with a 6-4, 6-2 win over Eric Fisher.

A&M swept the doubles in both matches.

A&M will host Fresno State, Oklahoma State and Rice in the ITA Kick-Off Weekend beginning Friday at the Mitchell Tennis Center.

TRACK & FIELD

Aggie men win, women fall against Longhorns: Texas A&M's men's indoor track and field team beat Texas 92-64 while the Aggie women lost 80.5-78.5 in front of 1,856 at the Gilliam Indoor Track Stadium on Saturday.

In the women's team race, A&M and Texas were tied at 75.5 going into the 1,600-meter relay, which Texas won in 3 minutes, 35.39 seconds to A&M's time of 3:35.60.

A&M's men won 10 of 15 events including Gerald Phiri in the 60, Curtis Mitchell in the 200, Demetrius Pinder in the 400, De'Lon Isom in the 60 hurdles and Pinder, Bryan Miller, Kyle Dykhuizen and Tabarie Henry in the 1,600 relay in a school record 3:05.92 -- also the nation's fastest collegiate time this season.

For A&M's women, Gabby Mayo won the 60, Porscha Lucas the 200, Jessica Beard the 400, Natasha Ruddock the 60 hurdles and Vashti Thomas the long and triple jumps.
