A&M women ranked 16th in final poll

The Texas A&M women's basketball team achieved its highest final national ranking in school history at No. 16 in the final Associated Press Top 25 poll.

The Aggies also were No. 21 in the final ESPN/USA Today coaches' poll, which was released Wednesday

It was A&M's first appearance in the final coaches' poll in the program's 33-year history. The Aggies were one of three Big 12 Conference teams in the final national polls.

The Aggies were ranked in both national polls a school-record 18 consecutive weeks including a program-best 10th on Nov. 28, 2006. A&M previously spent 12 consecutive weeks in the AP poll during the 1994-95 season. The Aggies have been ranked in the AP poll a program-best 24-straight weeks since the 2005-06 season. They ended the 2005-06 campaign at No. 20 in the final AP poll.

A&M (25-7) also finished out the season as one of the top eight defenses in the country, holding opponents to 53.6 points per game.

Aggie women set banquet date: The Texas A&M women's basketball team will be honored at the team's annual celebration banquet at 6 p.m. April 17 at The Zone Club at Kyle Field.

Cost is $20 per person. Reservations can be made by calling the women's basketball office at 862-3218 or by e-mailing Suzanne Shanks at Tickets should be reserved by April 13.
