A&M baseball gets nine commitments in first week of signing

The Texas A&M baseball program has received national letters of intent for nine newcomers for the 2014 season in the opening days of the early signing period, head coach Rob Childress announced Friday.

All nine player are from Texas, including seven prep standouts. The class includes OF Nick Banks (Tomball HS); IF Ryne Birk (Katy Seven Lakes); LHP Kaylor Chafin (Sweeny); RHP Mark Ecker (San Antonio O'Connor); OF Kaleb Goodell (Spring Klein HS/Navarro College); IF Ronnie Gideon (Hallsville); RHP Ryan Hendrix (Cy-Woods); RHP Casey Shane (Burleson Centennial); LHP Tyler Stubblefield (Lufkin).

The class includes six high schoolers ranked among the Perfect Game USA Top 500. The group includes Shane (17th), Banks (90th), Birk (172nd), Ecker (176th), Gideon (265th) and Stubblefield (475th).

A&M opens its 2013 season on Feb. 15, when the Aggies host Illinois-Chicago in the opener of a three-game series.
