HEARNE STADIUM A Cal Ripken, Sr. Foundation Youth Development Park Hearne, TX CREATING AN ENVIRONMENT FOR SUCCESS The Cal Ripken, Sr. Foundation in partnership with 1 Peter 410, a local nonprofit dedicated to empowering and promoting success of underserved youth, is planning to build a multipurpose turf football/soccer field and track at Hearne High School in Hearne, TX. Together, we will encourage healthy physical activity and provide mentorship opportunities through youth sports and enrichment programs. TRANSFORMING OPEN SPACES IN HEARNE, TX This new state-of-the-art synthetic turf football/soccer field and track will Hearne High School field rendering host practices, games, and meets for Hearne High School students year-round as well as other regional tournaments and community events. This is Phase One of three initiatives that will provide safe, positive, and healthy afterschool activities which foster social, educational, and recreational interactions between at-risk youth and caring adult mentors and coaches. Phase Two will include a Field House and Phase Three will create a parking lot for visiting teams, their players, and families. Afterschool programming is a powerful alternative to at-risk behaviors during the widely unsupervised time between 3 p.m. and 6 p.m. Research suggests that 29% of all violent crime committed by juvenile offenders occurs during those hours. The need is high for access to safe and positive facilities, and mentors and coaches who care about the well-being of these youth and their success. This is where the youth programming will make a real difference by giving kids healthy, character-building alternatives to the negative influences kids face today. IT’S ABOUT MUCH MORE THAN JUST BUILDING FIELDS. IT’S ABOUT BUILDING CHARACTER. The Cal Ripken, Sr. Foundation and 1 Peter 410 will work with Hearne High School together to serve the following goals: • Provide a vibrant community space at Hearne High School for kids to engage in year-round team sports. • Keep kids healthy and safe with a place to play and learn after school and over the summer. • Create an environment of discipline, self-respect, and success. • Aid in the academic, athletic, and social successes of youth. • Encourage youth to make smart choices through competitive sports.
